Welcome to my blog! I'm excited to share with you some of the most interesting and coolest songs I've discovered. I have decided to write about songs from Scandinavia, Japan , China and south Korea . I’ll be exploring a mix of genres and artists that have influence d music across the globe .   I decided to go and explore music from the Nordic tribes, specifically the Norse and Viking tribes, they lived in the regions now known as Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland) during the Viking Age. I choose a traditional Norse folk song called  "Völuspá". Völuspá is an ancient poem about the creation of the world, the gods, and the eventual end of the world, it was also a part of Old Norse poems that were passed down orally through the generations. This song is often performed with  a hardanger fiddle and flutes. The song has a very powerful storytelling element, combined with the distinctive sound of the hardanger fid...

Music & Rituals

Music plays a significant role in nearly every event—weddings, birthday parties, and even funerals. Almost every celebration includes music! I chose to talk about my cousin’s wedding because we are very close, and her bubbly personality really shined through in every part of the celebration. The song 'The wobble' starting playing, bringing everyone together on the dance floor—even the little kids joined in, laughing and clapping along. The upbeat music created an atmosphere of pure joy, with friends and family dancing freely, making sure that everyone had a great time. As people moved to the rhythm, the energy was contagious, filling the room with smiles and laughter. The dance floor became filled with people and with that the shoe's were kicked off, hands waving, and everyone was so in the moment that no one cared about being judged or how tired they were. By the end of the song, everyone’s spirits were lifted, and it felt like the perfect celebration of love, laughter, an...

My grandmother is 89 and has been an avid music listener her entire life. She has been through 8 decades of music.  Music has always played a big role in her life. It has been her passion ever since she was 10 years old. All she did growing up was play music. In fact, she took lessons and played 3 instruments: the accordion, piano and the organ!  When she turned 11, she had joined an all-girls traveling accordion band called “The Melody Marvels.” The band played on the radio like 5-6 times, and she said it was the most fun she ever had. She was also in a small band that included her sister Virginia and their friend James. They started off just messing around, but they ended up playing little concerts for groups of people in their town.   Here is a few pictures of my grandmother from the 40's and 50's  Her with the accordion Her sitting by the piano                         ...

Gender and music!

Image
Genders have always played a big part in growing up. I would always hear “Boys don’t play with dolls” or “girls can’t play with cars” or pink is for girls or blue is for boys. Why do people see things this way? Growing up my favorite color was and still is blue and I had  a huge collection  of hot wheels !   In the world of music, gender stereotypes manifest in  various ways . For example: if I were to ask you who you thought of when I say pop music, the most common answer would be a female artist such as Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande. Why, Because the gender roles that our society has placed over the years, says this is the way it should be. The truth is most people think of pop as a female dominated music genre when there is a countless number of male artists that have contributed to the pop culture genre and have been just as success as the female artist in the pop genre.    When most p...

H i , my name is CJ McBride, I was homeschooled from 3rd grade and graduated as a homeschooled student athlete. I love doing art such as painting, drawing and diamond art! I am the middle child of 3 sisters, and I have a dog named Kookie and 2 cats named Felix and Bruno. While I am here, I plan on majoring in psychology. Specifically, I want to work with athletes and help them with their mental game and teach them how to be mentally tough.  I have a passion for the mental side of sports, and I want to help every athlete realize that they are more than just a tennis player or a soccer player, I want them to know that they are brother and sister, sons, and daughters. Everything about psychology interests me.  I am originally from Florida but moved to Georgia when I was 13 years old. I am playing softball for the Converse softball team,...
